Symmetricom Announces Enhanced XL-GPS Time and Frequency Receiver

May 27, 2010

The just-introduced XL-GPS Time and Frequency Receiver is part of Symmetricom’s ultra-precise Model XLi time and frequency family of products. This network managed GPS instrument generates precise time and frequency signals referenced to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) suited for applications in test and measurement, central timing systems, process automation, test-range timing and the power industry, the company said. Optimized to provide advanced performance at lower cost, the XL-GPS is the first member of the XLi family to fully conform to the European Union RoHS Directive.

At the core of the XL-GPS Time and Frequency Receiver is Symmetricom’s advanced XLi timing and synchronization technology which assures accuracy and reliable performance. The XL-GPS with its built-in GPS receiver and network interface offers a cost-effective solution and ease-of-use to address a broad array of time and synchronization requirements, according to Symmetricom.

“With this newly enhanced XL-GPS, Symmetricom is continuing to drive higher levels of integration, provide support for the RoHS initiative, while maintaining the flexibility and performance of our industry leading XLi family of time and frequency GPS instruments,” said Ron Holm, product marketing manager at Symmetricom. “Delivering timing and synchronization solutions since the beginning of the GPS program, Symmetricom continues to apply its expertise to crucial operations in a wide range of government, broadcast, power and data acquisition applications.”

Benefits and capabilities of the new XL-GPS Time and Frequency Receiver include:

  • RoHS 5/6 Compliant – the new XL-GPS is the first member of the XLi family to provide RoHS 5/6 compliance, allowing full conformance to the hazardous substance reduction requirements of the European Union and other evolving international environmental standards.
  • Standard 10 MHz Output – by integrating the most commonly requested frequency output, overall solution cost is lowered while preserving the flexibility to provide additional frequency outputs.
  • Additional Frequency Outputs – 1, 5, 10 MHz/MPPS option module provides stability and accuracy to numerous applications that need multiple sine wave frequency or pulse rate references such as an internal oscillator within a communication system.
  • Multicode Capability – optional module provides flexibility with the generation of a wide range of time codes to support virtually any time code application.
  • Time Code Input – allows synchronization to an existing time code signal as an alternative or backup reference to GPS.
