Septentrio, part of Hexagon, is expanding its product line of ultra-compact mosaic-G5 receiver modules. The ecosystem encompasses products from various partners, as well as open-source projects and hardware reference designs.

The innovations are intended to make it easier for developers to integrate resilient high-accuracy positioning into UAVs, robotics, autonomous systems and other emerging applications.

The growing ecosystem includes mosaic-G5-based boards from Sparkfun, ArduSimple, GNSS Store, ARK electronics, ANavS, Holybro, MikroElektronika, Systork, Gateworks, and 3DR among others offering developers different form factors and integration paths. Hoverfly and CUAV are joining as new partners, further expanding the environments and platforms where mosaic-G5 technology can be deployed.

Complementing these commercial solutions, Septentrio is offering new open-source reference designs on GitHub, including mosaicG5-HAT, TeenG5, moTi and G5Dot. These designs make mosaic-G5 easily compatible with popular ecosystems including NVIDIA, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Teensy and the M.2 form factor. They help developers integrate robotic and UAV systems more quickly by providing a ready-made starting point.

“The value of technology grows with the community and ecosystem around it,” said Gustavo Lopez, Market Access Manager at Septentrio. “Our goal with mosaic-G5 is not simply to provide great GNSS technology, but to create the building blocks that allow partners and developers to innovate around it. By combining commercial partner solutions with open-source reference designs, we make it easier to connect mosaic-G5 with other ecosystems and enable the community to create applications and integrations that go far beyond what any single company could build alone.”

The GNSS modules in the mosaic-G5 product range measure only 23 mm by 16 mm and weigh as little as 2.2 grams. They enable reliable and resilient positioning without performance compromises for drones, robots and other size and power-constrained applications.

The new partner products and open-source projects create an expanding foundation around mosaic-G5 modules giving developers more choice, shortening development cycles and encouraging innovation across the broader GNSS community.
