As commercial drone delivery operations continue to expand, maintaining precise positioning and navigation in complex airspace remains a critical challenge. To support its beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) delivery missions, Volatus Aerospace Inc. has integrated the Trimble PX-1 RTX solution into its commercial drone fleet to enhance positioning accuracy, operational reliability and flight safety.
Based in Ontario, Canada, Volatus uses drones to conduct routine deliveries of medical supplies in Alberta. The company selected the Trimble PX-1 RTX system to provide centimeter-level positioning and precise heading information for its Canary delivery drone platform, enabling accurate navigation during fully remote operations.
The Trimble PX-1 RTX combines Trimble CenterPoint RTX correction services with compact GNSS-inertial hardware to deliver real-time positioning and inertial-derived true heading measurements. This technology reduces operational risks associated with poor sensor performance or magnetic interference by providing enhanced positioning redundancy.

The route operates within a Transport Canada and Nav Canada-approved flight corridor and requires strict compliance with airspace entry and exit procedures, altitude and speed restrictions, communication protocols and remote identification requirements.
The mission profile presents unique challenges. Drones must precisely enter and exit controlled airspace, maintain designated flight paths and remain at an altitude of 50 ft while crossing aircraft arrival routes. Accurate takeoff, landing and in-flight positioning are essential for maintaining compliance with operational approvals.
According to the Volatus team, the Trimble PX-1 RTX solution addresses these critical navigation challenges by providing the precise positioning and altitude control needed to support safe, accurate and compliant BVLOS operations.
