Leonardo and Telespazio have completed a collaborative project with startup Raysilience to develop a backup navigation system for GNSS-denied environments.

The project, which grew out of Raysilience’s win at the T-TeC — Telespazio Technology Contest 2024, delivered a plug-and-play visual positioning system (VPS) that uses satellite imagery and advanced data interpolation to provide autonomous navigation when GNSS signals are unavailable.

All planned deliverables were completed, validating the approach as a viable backup navigation solution for unmanned aerial vehicles and other platforms where positioning continuity is a strategic requirement. The solution’s plug-and-play design allows it to be integrated across different platforms with minimal modification.

The T-TeC contest targets young students and researchers at universities worldwide, with the goal of accelerating technology development in the space sector through engagement with high-tech startups.
