North Coast Media, LLC (NCM), of Cleveland, Ohio, and Esox Geospatial Publishing, LLC (EGP), of Vancouver, Washington, announced that EGP has acquired GPS World from NCM.
Published continuously since 1990, GPS World is an integrated print and digital media brand serving a total audited audience of nearly 60,000 readers across more than eight industries. For more than 35 years, GPS World has been a trusted industry resource, connecting its audience with many of the leading companies serving the global positioning, navigation and geospatial markets.
Geospatial industry veteran Matteo Luccio, owner of EGP and a former GPS World editor-in-chief, has returned to lead the brand as publisher and editor-in-chief. Luccio brings more than 25 years of experience as a writer and editor covering geospatial, GNSS and positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) technologies. “I am thrilled to take the helm again of this storied publication, this time around with much broader responsibilities and opportunities,” Luccio said. “While retaining its core focus on global navigation satellite systems, I plan to increase the magazine’s coverage of complementary PNT technologies, such as low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites; other sensors, such as lidar; other related technologies, such as autonomous vehicles; and the European market. Additionally, I plan to expand the range of content, to include reports from the field, tutorials, and updates on national and state policies and legislation.”
“GPS World’s marketing partners have been integral to the brand’s success,” Luccio added. “I remain committed to helping them effectively connect and engage with the GNSS/PNT community. I look forward to understanding their evolving needs and helping them achieve their goals.”
NCM will work closely with EGP during the first several months, providing assistance with advertiser communications, contracts and other key business functions. The 2026 November/December issue will be the first issue of GPS World published by EGP. Luccio has begun planning the issue and expects to maintain the publication’s current six-issue annual publishing schedule.
This marks Luccio’s third engagement with GPS World. He began his geospatial media career in 2000 as managing editor of GPS World and its sister publication, Galileo’s World. He later served as editor and publisher of GPS User; editor of Earth Observation Magazine and GIS Monitor; columnist for Professional Surveyor; contributing writer for Apogeo Spatial and xyHt; and special correspondent for Sensors and Systems. He also contributed to ArcNews, ArcWatch, GeoWorld, GIM International and GEO Informatics. In 2019, Luccio returned to GPS World as associate editor and became editor-in-chief in 2021.
Luccio holds a master’s degree in international security from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a professor in the surveying and geomatics program at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, and teaches Italian at the Scuola Italiana di Portland in Portland, Oregon. He is an avid cyclist, sailor, East Coast Swing dancer, and reader, with a personal library of about 5,000 books. He plays classical piano and enjoys hiking and hosting dinner parties with his wonderful partner, Kyoko, a retired critical care nurse.
