Pacific Defense secures Army contract for APNT navigation card

Pacific Defense has received a U.S. Army contract to develop the next generation of its assured positioning, navigation and timing (APNT) plug-in card, designed to provide reliable navigation for military platforms operating in GPS-denied environments.

The award covers development of the company’s Block 2 APNT plug-in card, an enhanced version of its existing Block 1 system that meets the U.S. Army’s C5ISR Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS) Mounted Form Factor (CMFF) requirements. Under the multi-phase program, Pacific Defense will design, build and test prototype hardware for delivery to the Army to support system integration and evaluation.

The APNT card is intended to help military platforms maintain accurate positioning, navigation and timing when GPS signals are jammed, spoofed or otherwise unavailable. The technology combines GPS with alternative navigation sources and onboard sensors to sustain operations in contested electromagnetic environments.

According to Pacific Defense, the Block 2 system is built as a rugged 3U VPX module that complies with both The Open Group’s Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Technical Standard and the Department of Defense’s CMOSS initiative, which are intended to improve interoperability and simplify future technology upgrades across military platforms.

The contract builds on Pacific Defense’s previous APNT development efforts, including internal research, earlier government programs and collaborations with industry and defense partners. The company has increasingly focused on modular open systems for C5ISR, electronic warfare and resilient PNT applications supporting U.S. military modernization.

Growing concerns over GPS jamming and spoofing by near-peer adversaries have accelerated the U.S. military’s investment in assured PNT technologies, which are viewed as critical for maintaining navigation and timing capabilities in contested environments.
