As threats against GPS increase, military forces need the most secure, reliable, and accurate positioning, timing, and synchronization solutions for any environment. M-Code is used in the lab for simulation and in the field operationally to ensure continuous performance.
M-Code is designed to give military receivers better defense against jamming, operate in dense vegetation, enhance their ability to track the GPS satellites, support a more secure and flexible cryptography architecture, detect and reject false signals, and provide higher power with comparable availability and accuracy improvements.

M-Code in the Lab
With MNSA M-Code, full testing of both the performance and the security features of the MGUE are possible. The user has full control over scenario settings with the real encryption used on the M-Code signal. This method is developed by simulator manufacturers with cooperation of the SMC Production Corps. It is only available to authorized users.
Last year, Orolia offered and successfully delivered the first Software-Defined GNSS Simulators with MNSA. The full press release can be read here.
BroadSim MNSA is a fully flexible implementation of the Modernized NavStar Security Algorithm. Any aspect of your simulation scenario can be changed, such as time, date, location, constellation, downlink data, signal configuration, and visible satellites.
BroadSim MNSA is compatible with all of the existing capabilities that the Skydel simulation engine supports – including jamming, spoofing, and more. No additional hardware is required.
M-Code in the Field
Also last year, Orolia announced the availability of M-Code Military GPS receivers in its Resilient PNT products and solutions, including M-Code enabled mobile mission timing and synchronization platforms.
Recently, the U.S. Army’s Sentinel A4 Radar Program received Orolia’s M-Code solution. In May 2021, Orolia delivered a shipment of M-Code enabled SecureSync units to Lockheed Martin.
SecureSync M-Code is an advanced mission timing and synchronization solution that offers exceptional reliability security and flexibility to support Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT). It combines Orolia’s precision time and frequency technology with an ultra-secure M-Code GPS receiver.
SecureSync M-Code includes:
- The latest generation of modernized security architecture
- Modernized anti-spoofing and anti-jamming for GPS-degraded environments
- Operations in mixed P(Y)-code and M-code constellations
- Accelerated Direct-Y and Direct-M code acquisitions
- Over-The-Air-Rekeying (OTAR)
Mission-critical military applications will benefit from SecureSync M-Code’s extreme reliability, security, and flexibility. An important advantage of SecureSync M-Code is its ruggedized shock and vibration-tested chassis, designed to meet MIL-STD-810F for environmental performance. The SecureSync is also available with a secure Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) based GPS receiver.
SecureSync with M-Code provides enhanced resilient positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities and improved resistance to existing and emerging GPS threats, such as jamming and spoofing.
Wherever you are, Orolia has you covered with end-to-end M-Code solutions that are trusted and proven.
