Navman Wireless iPhone App for Fleet Tracking Now Available in U.S.

September 8, 2010

Navman Wireless has announced the U.S. availability of the just-released iPhone application for its OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking and management platform. Available immediately from the iTunes App Store, the free application enables dispatchers, fleet managers, and company executives to monitor key fleet activities as well as exchange electronic messages with drivers without needing a computer to access the OnlineAVL2 administrative console.

The Navman Wireless app allows customers with iPhones to:
•    Check the real-time location of single vehicles or the entire fleet.
•    Send and receive messages to/from vehicles’ mobile communication devices.
•    Route vehicles to their next destination.
•    See a vehicle’s recent driving route replayed on a map.
•    View a list of stop times, idle times, and other recent activity by vehicle.

The new app extends the benefits of OnlineAVL2, including GPS-based vehicle tracking, fuel savings, and other cost reductions for school transportation companies, construction firms, government agencies, and other organizations on five continents. It is the first iPhone application to be offered by a global fleet tracking provider, Navman Wireless claimed, and it works on all iPhone models as well as the Apple iPad.

“Real-time vehicle tracking is an essential component of any fleet tracking system. Managers frequently need up-to-the-minute information to troubleshoot, communicate with people in the field, or simply see that operations are running smoothly,” said Paresh Nagda, Navman Wireless CTO. “With our new iPhone application, those capabilities are in your pocket regardless of where you happen to be. It’s a valuable way to maintain oversight and quality control when you’re away from your computer.”

“OnlineAVL2 is saving 2.2 million gallons of fuel for our customers every month, and that increases every time we add a new vehicle to our installed base,” said Renaat Ver Eecke, VP and general manager of Navman Wireless North America. “Our new iPhone app is another step in helping fleets around the world operate efficiently, cost-effectively, and sustainably.”

Navman Wireless’ OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking and management platform tracks all vehicles in the fleet in real time as well as measuring fleet, vehicle, and driver performance. Its GPS-based tracking and extensive reports help reduce fleets’ fuel usage, improve fleet productivity, enhance customer service, and identify problems such as excessive idling, inaccurate timesheets, unauthorized stops, and personal vehicle use.

The platform includes Navman Wireless’ OnlineAVL2 software, Qube in-vehicle tracking device, and a choice of mobile communication devices enabling easy and low-cost two-way message exchange as well as turn-by-turn GPS navigation. The software is delivered under the Software-as-a-Service model, with no need for major in-house software installation or maintenance.
