Topcon Announces Tesla Large-Screen Data Collector
October 12, 2011
Topcon Positioning Systems has announced a new larger screen data collector, the Topcon Tesla. The Tesla features the advantages of a tablet PC and a rugged handheld computer, Topcon said in a press release issued today. The announcement was also made at Intergeo in Nuremberg, Germany, in September. Intergeo is the world’s largest trade show for the geodesy, geoinformation and land management industries.
“This incredibly easy to learn and easy to operate controller has Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system that has an impressive array of features,” Scott Langbein, senior manager for Topcon product management, said. He said the new unit operates with Topcon’s software suite, Pocket 3D, Layout, and soon-to-be-released Magnet.
All three Topcon Tesla units — Standard, Geo, and Geo G3 — come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology. The Geo and the Geo 3G add a 3.2 MP camera and GPS capability; the Geo 3G also has a 3G GSM modem (AT&T network approved).
“The dustproof and waterproof instrument with its IP67 rating is impervious to harsh conditions, including water, sand, humidity, dust, vibration, altitude, shock, and extreme temperature,” Langbein said.
“Its almost six-inch, ultra-bright, backlit LCD screen ensures that bigger is definitely better,” he said. “The new controller has an extremely long battery life of up to 16 hours.” In addition, the unit has hot-swappable battery capabilities, ensuring continuous operation in the most demanding circumstances.
The unit weighs less than two pounds and is 5.3 inches wide, 8.6 inches long and two inches deep.
Standard accessories include Li-ion batteries, USB cable, stylus, screen protector, hand-carrying strap, and power supply. Optional accessories include a travel charger, 12V vehicle charger, international AC charger kit, and a mobile docking station.
Langbein said Topcon Tesla will be available before the end of the year.
