August 8, 2008

Best-Fit Computing, Inc., has released a major upgrade to its COLUMBUS Network Adjustment Software, used in the survey and construction field. Version 3.7.2.x provides powerful coordinate transformation and network pre-analysis and adjustment capabilities, the company said. This release features new data management grids for intuitive, spreadsheet-style data input and editing for datums, stations, and observations. Cell-level validation for expected value range and type streamlines data maintenance.

According to Best-Fit, other features include 1D, 2D, and 3D traversing and loop closures; comprehensive statistical analysis; ALTA/ACSM Positional Testing; OPUS and coordinate file import tools; and third-party conversion and coordinate transformation tools.

The software is free to educational institutions. A free demo kit and training videos, as well as a comprehensive feature list, are available for download. The demo has all the functionality of the full release, with up to 12 stations and an unlimited number of observations.
