Topcon Positioning System has upgraded its GRS-1 handheld data collector to include sub-decimeter accuracy kits for high-accuracy GIS data collection. The real-time kinematic (RTK) GIS kits are designed for jobs with high-accuracy applications.

Typical GIS application areas for this accuracy level include asset management, utilities, city, and county governments, and water and wastewater management.

For a sub-decimeter solution, the GRS-1 requires either Field Tools for ArcPad (v8 or v10.0) or TopSURV GPS+ software.

In order to utilize the kits to upgrade an existing sub-meter GRS-1 to sub-decimeter RTK, the current GRS-1 must have an internal GSM or CDMA modem. Sub-decimeter and centimeter accuracy is acquired through a connection to a real-time network.
