What to do?
"My colleague Eric Gakstatter perceived the need for a more broad-based organization, an all-inclusive industry and users association, which the GPS Industry Council patently is not, however earnestly it has tried to serve that purpose in the absence of anyone else to do so."

Finding a broad-based organization which takes into consideration all of the various types of professionals within the surveying industry is not that difficult. Land Surveyors United http://landsurveyorsunited.com does just that! in fact there is even a group called "Surveyors Against LightSquared" which you might find interesting. Aside from that group you will not only find groups based on virtually every location on earth, but you'll also find surveyors huddling together for 'social support' for fields like cadastral surveying, topographic, construction, seismic surveying, boundary and more. Land Surveyors United is both helping surveyors help one another in the field (in 144 languages) it is also educating the public on the importance of land surveyors. If you haven't yet seen the network, i encourage you to check it out. It may be that breath of fresh air you have been looking for. BTW. LSU is a non-profit which does not pay uncle goog for advertising so our network is organic in the search engines, as LSU's member based found the site by needing support and finding the answer on the network. In other words LSU does not pay to find members like many other surveying forums and when members join, they rarely leave the community. Hope this helps.
