NovAtel Announces SPAN-MPPC GNSS/INS Engine

September 25, 2009

Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) NovAtel has introduced the SPAN-MPPC at ION GNSS 2009 in Savannah, Georgia. The SPAN-MPPC provides the processing power of the company’s SPAN (Synchronous Position, Attitude and Navigation) engine, the SPAN-SE, in a card-stack form factor that can be integrated into a wide range of navigation applications, NovAtel said.

SPAN products tightly-couple NovAtel’s GNSS technology with highly-accurate inertial measurement technology, resulting in a robust, stable and continuous position, velocity and attitude solution. The SPAN-MPPC board stack is compatible with all SPAN supported inertial measurement units (IMUs), including the Honeywell HG1700, the iMAR FSAS and the Northrop Grumman LN200. It offers serial, USB, CAN and Ethernet connectivity as well as multiple output strobes and input event triggers for synchronization of other sensors.

“The SPAN-MPPC is a card-based solution designed to meet the needs of system integrators whose products are constrained by size and weight, like those in airborne survey, ground mapping and vehicle tracking,” said Graham Purves, vice president of sales and marketing for NovAtel. “By combining our multi-constellation OEMV-3 receiver with our GNSS/INS technology in a board stack configuration, we have created a powerful, compact navigation solution that takes up considerably less room than enclosed navigation systems.”

Development kits of SPAN-MPPC are available now, with first customer volume shipments available January 2010.
