Lowrance Debuts GPS Chartplotter for Off-Road Use

Lowrance has released its off-road, five-inch high-definition system (HDS), the HDS-5 Baja. The expandable GPS chartplotter supports Lowrance FreedomMaps EX of the U.S. and Canada, the LWX-1 SIRIUS satellite weather and radio receiver, and the LGC-4000 external GPS receiver. The unit measures 7.24 inches wide x 5.27 inches high x 3.46 inches deep.

Features of the HDS-5 Baja include:
  • an internal 16-channel GPS antenna
  • a 480x480-pixel, five-inch color display that incorporates Lowrance SolarMax PLUS sunlight-readable enhancements
  • built-in mapping, which includes major roads and highways and a high-speed micro SD card slot compatible with the full range of FreedomMaps topographical plug-and-play options
  • compatibility with SIRIUS real-time inland and coastal weather, accessible via ethernet connection with an optional LWX-1 radio antenna
  • support for the optional LGC-4000 Baja external GPS+WAAS antenna with high-speed position updates; when connected, the HDS-5 Baja will offer a 5 Hz satellite signal update rate of five times per second
  • a new menu, which provides quicker access to the most-used features
  • an improved backlit keyboard
  • a fully water- and dust-protected design.
