CTIA: Tele Atlas Names Finalists for 2008 Maps In Apps

Tele Atlas has named Open Green Map, Pongr, and the Travel Channel GO as the finalists in the Tele Atlas LBS Innovators Series' Maps In Apps 2008 competition.

Tele Atlas further announced that Autodesk and SiRF Technology have joined the Tele Atlas LBS Innovators Series as sponsors. The digital map supplier says it created its Maps in Apps competition to spur growth in consumer and business applications that use mapping or location. This year, the Maps in Apps contest was judged by experts from Autodesk, deCarta, Human Factors International, Motorola, Networks In Motion, Research In Motion, and SiRF.

Open Green Map is a social mapping website designed to guide users to local nature, culture, and green living innovations. The application will help connect growing local green development and ecotourism movements with social networking and interactive mapping, according to Tele Atlas.
Pongr is a mobile technology that allows consumers to price-comparison shop from their cell phones. By taking a picture or texting item information, users reportedly get price and location information for the nearby stores sent back to their phone.
Travel Channel GO: A free mobile travel application providing access to Travel Channel destination content through any web-enabled mobile device. Through text, photos, and audio, Travel Channel GO offers users more than 10 million points of interest and more than 2,000 Travel Channel-exclusive content references including destination guides, maps, directions, proximity alerts, click-to-call, and narratives from Travel Channel personalities like Samantha Brown, Tele Atlas said.

Attendees at this year's CTIA IT & Entertainment tradeshow were eligible to vote for which application they liked best; the winner will be awarded $25,000 in cash and $50,000 in Tele Atlas map data while two runners up each will receive $10,000 in cash and $20,000 in Tele Atlas map data.
