Sixth Meeting of the ICG to Share GNSS Updates, Issues

The sixth meeting of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG) will take place September 5-9 in Tokyo, Japan. The online registrastion deadline is July 15.

The International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems is an informal body to promote cooperation on matters of mutual interest related to civilian satellite-based positioning, navigation, timing, and value-added services, as well as the compatibility and interoperability of GNSSs, while increasing their use to support sustainable development, particularly in developing countries.

Participants are system providers, international governmental organizations and international non-governmental organizations. This ICG-6 meeting will include an expanded agenda to permit time for the plenary session discussions, Providers’ Forum discussions, and Working Groups meetings.

The meeting will take place at the Mita Kaigisho in Tokyo, Japan. Mita Kaigisho is a government conference hall that was built mainly for summit level international conferences. The draft provisional agenda includes the following highlights.

The first plenary session of the ICG will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. The primary purpose is for providers to present the status and future plans for their systems, and for associate members and observers to also provide updates. All presenters will identify issues for discussion in the ICG and/or Working Groups. Opening remarks will be delivered by a representative of the Japan Office for Outer Space Affairs, United Nations Office at Vienna.

Providers System and Service Updates will be delivered on:

  • QZSS/MSAS, Japan
  • GPS/WAAS, United States of America
  • GLONASS/SDCM, Russian Federation
  • Galileo/EGNOS, European Union
  • COMPASS/BeiDou, China
  • GAGAN/IRNSS, India

Presentations by associate members and observers on matters of interest to the ICG will provide an opportunity for associate members and observers to present recent developments in their organizations and associations with regard to GNSS services and applications.

Applications and Expert Seminars will be held for participants or invited presenters to raise awareness of issues and opportunities in user applications and GNSS technology for consideration by the ICG or Working Groups.

The Working Groups will meet on Wednesday, September 7, and present results of their meetings or any meetings held since the Third Meeting of the ICG in a second plenary session on Thursday. Presentations will include any draft recommendations to the ICG.
