Latest Compass Satellite Lost, then Found

May 1, 2009

Launched on April 14, the second "second generation" Beidou/Compass satellite (designated Compass-G2) was initially tracked by NORAD but then "lost" when the satellite moved from its transfer orbit to a geostationary one.

After a delay of about two weeks, NORAD has issued its first two-line element set for the satellite in its geostationary orbit. The satellite is positioned at an east longitude of 84° 39' (just southeast of Sri Lanka).
