NAVTEQ Provides Traffic Data for Weather.com Maps

November 10, 2008

NAVTEQ has struck a deal with the Weather Channel Interactive Inc. to provide Weather.com users interactive traffic content along with its current weather mapping.

NAVTEQ Traffic real-time data enables the Web site's users to pinpoint traffic backups by entering their ZIP code, city, state, or exact addresses. When users view their locations centered on the interactive map, they can pan and zoom to view real-time traffic speeds and conditions along roadways while they view current weather and commute forecasts, according to the companies. Clickable traffic incident icons alert users to exact locations of construction, accidents, and delays. When icons are clicked, pop-up information bubbles provide more detail about each incident including estimated start and end times as well as the impact severity of each incident.

In addition to NAVTEQ's traffic information, users of the Weather.com site's interactive map tool are able to view a variety of weather overlays that may impact their driving plans, including radar, cloud cover, and wind speed, according to the companies. Detailed weather conditions are also reportedly available for local points of interest, such as airports, golf courses, shopping centers and schools.
