FIG Working Week Technical Program Finalized - Gakstatter Speaking

April 28, 2011

FIG (International Federation of Surveyors) announced the release of the final technical program for the FIG Working Week conference being held in Marrakach, Morocco May 18-22, 2011.

According to FIG, this Working Week, under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco is the first Working Week of the new FIG Administration that started its term of office this January.

FIG reported that “Bridging the Gaps between Cultures” is an appropriate theme, not only is Marrakech the meeting point for the Arab, African and European cultures, the Working Week will bring together people of different cultures, diverse surveying traditions and varying professional experiences. As ONIGT continues to be active regionally, within the FGF (Francophone Federation of Surveyors), AUS (Arab Union of Surveyors and UMG (Mediterranean Union of Surveyors), and with their active participation in FIG, will prove to be a worthy local host.

FIG reported they received more than 550 paper proposals, continuing the very successful formula with options for presenting both peer reviewed and practical papers. The technical programme will thus be one of the biggest in FIG Working Week history, and should be of interest to participants from all over the world. We can also expect an outstanding social component to this year’s Working Week. Those among us who attended the FIG Regional Conference in Marrakech in 2003 know that the social events and atmosphere in Marrakech are unique and will be memorable.

GPS World's Surveying/GIS Editor Eric Gakstatter is presenting a technical paper at FIG Working Week entitled "What's Going to Happen When High-Precision GNSS is Inexpensive?" on Thursday, May 19 at 4:00pm local time.

FIG Working Week is being hosted by the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech.
