Fastrax Integrates Software, Hardware in Track&Trace
August 27, 2008Fastrax has launched its Track&Trace platform, integrating all software and hardware components needed for tracking applications in its system, according to the company.
The Track&Trace Platform is designed for telematics device manufacturers and asset tracking service providers. It can reportedly be used as an off-the-shelf product, be customized for specific application requirements, or be integrated into existing solutions.
The Track&Trace hardware is based on Fastrax's uTrace03 telematics module, which consists of a GPS receiver with an integrated antenna, a GSM/GPRS modem with an integrated quad band antenna, and connectors. The Track&Trace platform also includes the pre-certified (CE, FCC, PTCRB) uTrace03 Evaluation Kit, which is a complete battery powered tracking device, according to the company.
The hardware platform includes the uTrace03 Development Board for development and evaluation of extended customized hardware and software applications. It further contains the uTrace03 Automotive Interface board, which provides a power supply unit, optional automotive bus connections, sensors, and a flash memory bank for over-the-air downloads and extended data logging.
The default Fastrax Track&Trace software includes functions such as GPS navigation, a database for points of interest coupled to route adherence, and 4D-geofencing capabilities, as well as an embedded file system for storing navigation and event logs, according to the company. The software also handles GSM/GPRS communication, log export, an interface to Fastrax Track&Trace Server for real-time tracking, and power save schemes for different power starved environments. The web-based Fastrax Track&Trace Server, a demonstration service for tracking assets, is offered free of charge to facilitate testing in real application environments, Fastrax said.
Fastrax also provides a Track&Trace Embedded Software toolkit for building embedded tracking applications and for modifying existing software features. A significant part of the environment comes as source code, which allows tailoring and optimization of the final application, according to the company.
"Our aim is to help application device manufacturers and service providers hit the mass market sooner and with lower R&D and production costs," said Taneli Tuurnala, Fastrax president and CEO.
