Roadpilot Data and Technology Powers New AA Safety Camera Locator App
November 1, 2011
RoadPilot announced that its Omni database of global speed camera sites is the resource behind the Automobile Association's (the AA) new GPS safety camera locator application for smartphones, called The AA Safety Camera App.
According to the announcement, the UK's leading motoring organisation's new app is available now from the Apple and Android app stores, and provides audio and visual alerts to fixed and mobile safety camera sites across Great Britain.
Edmund King, President of the AA, said, "We believe safety camera warning systems such as this new app enhance road safety. They act as a reminder of the speed limits and warn motorists when they are approaching a dangerous stretch of road, creating greater awareness of the hazards ahead."
James Flynn OBE, CEO of RoadPilot, added, "This new licensing deal builds on RoadPilot's existing data provision agreement with the AA, which sees our safety camera location data included in the AA's printed road maps and online route planner function."
RoadPilot's method of data acquisition differs from that of its competitors with each fixed camera site in the database physically surveyed to ensure total accuracy of information. Established in 2000, RoadPilot was the first company to market a GPS safety camera location device and is now Europe's leading provider of safety camera data to the automotive satellite navigation, online mapping, routing and printed map sectors.
The Automobile Association (the AA) is the UK's leading motoring organisation, with over 15 million members. It attends around 3.5 million breakdowns every year; on average 9,500 per day, fixing over 80% of breakdowns at the side of the road and helping members continue on their journey across the country.
