Facebook Acquires Gowalla, Sort Of

In a Dec. 5, 2011 blog statement, Gowalla co-founder Josh Williams announced that he and is team at Gowalla are being hired by Facebook. 

According to Gowalla's blog, Facebook is not acquiring Gowalla nor its user database.

"We plan to provide an easy way to export your Passport data, your Stamp and Pin data (along with your legacy Item data), and your photos as well", blogged Williams. "Facebook is not acquiring Gowalla’s user data."

Gowalla will cease operations by the end of January 2012.
