Tablet PC Round-up
September 9, 2010 By: Eric GakstatterTablet computers have been around for well over a decade and have been mostly regarded as a high-end niche product, but with the iPad and a slew of new-generation tablets being released this year, there is a renewed push in the world of tablet computing. I touched on tablets earlier this year and have kept up with the iPad throughout the year, so I thought this would be a good time to catch up.
I own a tablet computer. I bought it a few years ago to use strictly for GIS on a couple of projects. Before purchasing, I researched several tablet computer manufacturers; Fujitsu, Xplore Techonologies, Hammerhead, Itronix and a number of others. All of the ones I looked at were pretty expensive, starting at $2,000 and with the high-end around $5,000.
The tablet computer landscape has certainly changed. Most of the following are convertible notebook computers instead of pure tablet PCs. Tablet PC Review published the most searched tablets on its website. I’ll write more on this next week, so until then, here are the top 10.

5. Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Tablet PC

6. Apple iPad

10. Dell Streak

Thanks, and see you next week.
