ESRI Unveils Geocoding, Place-Finding, Routing for ArcGIS
June 2, 2009ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop users can now complement their GIS projects with geocoding, place-finding, and routing capabilities with World Geocoding and World Routing, new professional ArcGIS Online location services that use current and detailed Tele Atlas reference data and are hosted and maintained by ESRI.
World Geocoding is a set of standard no-cost services that provides address, batch, and reverse geocoding for North America and Europe as well as global place-finding capabilities, according to ESRI. Users who need to batch geocode for more than 1,000 addresses per year or use this service for commercial purposes can purchase annual subscriptions in blocks of 25,000 batch geocodes. The no-cost World Geocoding services can be accessed with ArcGIS 9.2 or higher. To access the subscription services, users must have ArcGIS 9.3.1.
World Routing supports point-to-point and optimized routing for North America and Europe, according to ESRI. It is available as a standard, no-cost service with a limit of 5,000 routes per year and as a fee-based service for each additional block of 5,000 routes, which can be used for commercial purposes. World Routing requires ArcGIS 9.3.1.
"With the release of these new products, ArcGIS customers can now exploit high-quality, on-demand location services from ArcGIS Online. These services can help ArcGIS users get their work done faster and leverage their current investment in ArcGIS," said Rob Shanks, senior product manager for ArcGIS Online.
