Now GPS Can Even Track Your Unmentionables

October 31, 2008

Perhaps GPS World should have saved this item for Valentine's Day rather than Halloween: news service Agence France Presse (AFP) reports that a Brazilian clothing designer has incorporated a GPS receiver into her line of "Find Me if You Can" lingerie.

The lingerie consists of a lace bodice, bikini bottom, and faux pearl collar; the GPS resides in a see-through part of the bodice next to the waist.

Needless to say, critics maintain that it's not exactly the most progressive idea, placing a satellite tracking device in women's underwear. But maker Lucia Iorio says her design targets the modern, technologically savvy woman, one who will only be found when she wants to be found, according to AFP.

"This collection ... is a wink to women and a challenge to men because, even if she gives him the password to her GPS, she can always turn it off," Iorio told AFP."She can be found only if she wants to. It's not a modern chastity belt. Some men think they can keep tabs on their girlfriends with it, but they're wrong."

Some women have also expressed interest in the GPS lingerie line for safety reasons, Iorio said, according to AFP. She hopes that this will help drive sales in the future; she has only sold a few sets so far.

This could be because sexy, GPS-enabled underwear doesn't come cheap; the set with a standard GPS receiver sells for $800 bucks; the advanced model sells for $1,000 — and no, AFP didn't elaborate on the difference. Of course, if you're going to spend that kind of money to invest in GPS-enabled lingerie, you might as well invest in some sexy, GPS-enabled stilettos to match.
