GPS Named "Top Innovation" of Decade by ABC News
December 2, 2009GPS, or more specifically, access to the system after Selective Availability was turned off on May 2, 2000, has been named one of the top 10 innovations of the decade by ABC News. Other innovations include Google, smartphones, social networking, and text messaging.
Without Selective Availability, which for national security purposes degraded the signal for all but military users, manufacturers were free to develop highly accurate devices for consumer use.
