Wikitude’s Augumented Reality Navigation Released in U.S.
August 17, 2011 By: Janice Partyka
Wikitude Drive, an augmented reality navigation app, has now expanded from the European to the U.S. market.
Wikitude Drive overlays the desired navigation route onto the camera view of a mobile device. Instead of using a digital map, the driver follows a line projected onto his phone’s camera view.
Besides viewing the route itself, the driver has the option of virtually adding points of interest (POIs) like hotels, restaurants, and gas stations to the display. Wikitude Drive uses Navteq mapping. Map and route information is downloaded in real time to enable route calculation.
